Email hosting

Managed email gives you real mailboxes on a domain you own - [email protected]. You keep the domain; we host the mail. Every plan includes webmail (at webmail.instantnode.eu) plus IMAP, POP3 and SMTP so you can use any mail app.

The plan caps how many mailboxes and aliases you can create; the storage figure applies to each mailbox. Every plan has full IMAP/POP3/SMTP access.

Ordering

Two steps: pick a plan, then enter the domain you want mail on and (on paid plans) an optional voucher. It's charged from your account balance and billed monthly. After ordering you finish the setup on the mailbox's page - DNS first, then create your mailboxes.

Domain & DNS

Before mail flows you verify the domain and add its DNS records: an MX record pointing at mx1.instantnode.eu, an SPF record, a DMARC record, a one-time ownership TXT, and a DKIM key (shown once the domain is verified). The page lists every record with a live green check so you can see when each one is live. If your domain's DNS is hosted with InstantNode, one button writes all the records for you; otherwise add them at your DNS provider.

Mailboxes

Once the domain is verified, create mailboxes ([email protected] plus a password of at least 8 characters), up to your plan's limit. Each mailbox shows a used/quota bar; you can change its password or delete it (deleting removes its mail, and takes the mailbox out of any alias that pointed at it). Hit the limit and you'll be prompted to upgrade for more.

Aliases

An alias is an extra address on your domain - info@, sales@, billing@ - that delivers into one or up to 10 mailboxes of the same plan. To add one, open the plan's page in the dashboard, scroll to Aliases, enter the part before the @, click the mailboxes that should receive the mail and press Add alias. The number of aliases depends on your plan (see the table above: 5 on Free up to 1000 on Enterprise).

• Aliases store nothing and can't send - they only deliver into their target mailboxes. Send and reply from the mailbox itself.
• Each alias can be switched off and on again without deleting it, and you can change its targets or delete it at any time.
• Deleting a mailbox removes it from every alias it was a target of. An alias left without any mailbox is deleted with it.

Mail client settings

Sign in with your full email address as the username. The server is mx1.instantnode.eu.

Managing it

Open webmail in one click, upgrade to a larger plan (you're shown a prorated quote and only pay the difference for the rest of the period), and cancel with a refund of the unused time back to your balance. You can also change the domain - note that this deletes the existing mailboxes and re-verification is required, so treat it as a fresh start.

API

Everything except cancelling can also be done with a personal access token under /api/pat/v1/email: list plans and your subscriptions, add a domain, read its DNS records, apply them (for domains with DNS at InstantNode), verify and remove it, create mailboxes, change a mailbox's password or quota, delete mailboxes, list, create, update and delete aliases, and get an upgrade quote and upgrade.
